The clash between the herdsmen and the farmers in my community claimed my father’s life. We received the news of his death in a neighboring village where we escaped to take refuge. We were not able to see his corpse because normalcy had not been restored in the community. Not only that, he was cut into pieces by the herdsmen. This incident occurred in the year 2011 in my community (BANDAWA) in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
This plunged us into untold hardship. The traumatic effect of this never speared our mother, who died soon afterwards. While striving to make both ends meet, my mother, died as a result of an ailment whose cause I am yet to know because she was taken to the hospital and all diagnosis carried out but no disease was found. She could not talk to anybody until she died. This dealt me another blow. My view of life changed and the cloud of misery beclouded me. Relations from both sides withheld their help from us and hid their faces, living us in the hands of fate to tell the last tale.
I felt like it was all over for me because, while they were alive, I had almost everything I needed in my possession, but after their death, misery hunted me.
